Voncille Nicholson Coleman

Voncille Nicholson Coleman of New Brockton went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 30, 2010 in Dothan. She was 86.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, August 2, 2010 from the First United Methodist Church in New Brockton with Rev. Dwight Deal and Rev. Ben McKee officiating. Burial will follow in the New Brockton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 until 5pm. At all other times the family will be at the home of a daughter, Patricia Edwards, 505 East Church St, New Brockton. The body will be placed into the church 1 hour before service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Brockton, AL.

 

Mrs. Coleman was born September 23, 1923 in Crenshaw County to the late Greyer and Edna Estelle Lunsford Phelps. She was a member of the First U.M. Church in New Brockton. Her first husband, Leon W. Nicholson and a granddaughter, Melissa Nolin Crook preceded her in death.

 

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Coleman, New Brockton, AL, 4 daughters: Patricia Edwards, New Brockton, Lynn Mauldin and partner Dee Cowing, Atlanta, Ga,, Loretta Thornton and husband Kenneth, Enterprise, AL, Sherlene Newton and husband Robert, Athens, TN , 2 step-sons: Eddie Hill, Elba, AL, Chuck Coleman, Level Plains, AL, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren.

 

 

 

 

SPC Andrew Lee Hand

            SPC Andrew Lee Hand of Enterprise, Alabama passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 in Qalat, Afghanistan.  He was 25.

            Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Chaplain Sonny Moore officiating.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Friday, July 30 from 6 until 8 pm.  The family will also receive friends at Liberty Church in Birmingham, AL Monday, August 2, 2010 from 10 until 11 am with a funeral service at 11 am at the church.  Burial with full military honors will be at 2 pm at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.

            Andrew was born November 28, 1984 in Valdosta, GA.  He was a 2004 graduate of Enterprise High School and was a member of the football and track teams.  He joined the National Guard in 2005 and served in 2 deployments, the first in Iraq and the second in Qatar and Kuwait.  In 2008 he went into active duty and was stationed in Washington State with his wife and two sons.  He was deployed to Afghanistan in October 2009 and was killed July 24, 2010 alongside three other soldiers in his unit.

            Survivors include his wife, Amanda Kay Hand, Enterprise, AL; two sons, Tristan Nicholas Laine Hand and Gavin Austin Lee Hand, both of Enterprise; his parents: Kenneth and Renee Hand, Birmingham, AL and Phyllis and Jerry Parris, Birmingham, AL; one sister, Laura Hand Davis and one brother, Robert Bagwell, two nieces and one nephew, all of Birmingham, AL

Linda Diane Jones

            Linda Diane Jones of Jack, Alabama passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Medical Center Enterprise. She was 62.

            Graveside funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from the Victoria Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Ben Amlong officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing. There will be no visitation, however, the family welcomes friends to the home of a daughter & son-in-law Donna & Jeff Hussey in the Victoria community.

            Diane was born October 5, 1947 in Coffee County to the late Charles R. and Willie Mae Sawyer Lindsey. In addition to her parents, a brother preceded her in death.

            Survivors include her husband, Donald Jones, Jack, AL, 3 daughters, Jennifer Farris Amlong and husband Jeff, Brundidge, AL, Lynn Farris Sorrells and husband Michael, Donna Jones Hussey and husband Jeff all of the Victoria Community, 2 sisters: Willie Frank Walker, Atlanta, GA, Barbara Stephenson, Enterprise, AL, 2 brothers: C.A. “Allen” Lindsey and wife Mary, Jack Lindsey and wife Margaret all of Enterprise, AL, 5 grandchildren, Lindsey and Lawson Amlong, Shelby Sorrells, Erika and Stown Hussey, several nieces and nephews. 

Mary Ann Lucille Jordan

            Mary Ann Lucille Jordan of Enterprise, AL passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at the family residence.  She was 84.

            In keeping with Mrs. Jordan’s wishes, she will be cremated and there will not be a public service.

            Mrs. Jordan was born April 13, 1926 in Ellis, WI to the late Joseph V. and Mary Vera Platta.  In addition to her parents, her husband, Philip Anthony Casale, preceded her in death.

            Survivors include 1 son, Philip Casale (Valerie), Enterprise, AL; 2 daughters: Linda Pepper, North Carolina and Callie Sue Trout, Sturgeon Bay, WI; 1 brother, Lambert Platta, Stevens Point, WI; 1 sister, Helen Zoromski (William), Custer, WI; 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

 

Brenda Gail Grant

            Brenda Gail (Johnson) Grant, formerly of Montgomery, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Enterprise, AL.  She was 59.

            She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Voncile Johnson; her devoted husband of 40 years, Wendell V. Grant; her children, Layne (Melissa) Grant of Montgomery, AL, Wendy Waters of Enterprise, AL, and Kenny (April) Grant of Enterprise, AL; grandchildren, Taylor Grant, Leanna Smith, Landon Grant, Kade Grant, Karson Grant, Tori Taylor, Tatum Taylor, Morgan Waters, and Tyler Waters; brothers, Jerry (Novella) Johnson, Tommy (Mary Ann) Johnson, and; sisters-in-law, Hilda (Gale) Folwer, Rose (Jack) Gladwell, Shelby (Ernie) Charette; a dear friend, Robert Branton; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Johnson and her sister, Patricia Coslett.

            A memorial service will be held at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, July 25th at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise, AL.  Brenda was a true blessing to all of the lives she touched and will be missed dearly.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, PO Box 531225, Birmingham, AL 35253 (www.bcrfa.org).

William Joseph Hennis, Jr.

            William Joseph Hennis, Jr. of Enterprise, AL passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Medical Center Enterprise. He was 25.

            Friends of Joey will hold a memorial service at JP’s in Enterprise starting at 7 pm Wednesday, July 21.  A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Enterprise.

            Joey was born June 6, 1985 in Geneva, AL. He loved living life to its fullest as well as being with his friends as each day passed.

            Survivors include his parents, Kim and Greg Hall, Enterprise, AL; 1 sister, Jennifer Wilson and husband Colby, Daleville, AL; 2 brothers: Matthew Hall, Alaska, Ethan Hall, Enterprise, AL; maternal grandmother, Mickie Littel, Enterprise, AL; uncles: Eric Littel and wife Danny, Enterprise, AL, Roger Hall, Dothan, AL; nephew, Princeton Hall; cousins: Ryan, Reilly and Emily; many loving family, friends and other relatives.

Mr. Andrew Kianka

            Mr. Andrew Kianka of Enterprise, AL passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.  He was 93.

            A funeral mass will be held at 10 am Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at St. John Catholic Church with Father Gregory Okorobia officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Monday from 5 until 7 pm with a rosary being said at 6 pm.

            Mr. Kianka was born August 22, 1916 in New Buffalo, Ohio to the late John and Mary Lengen Kianka.  He served in the United States Navy during WWII.  He was a member of St. John Catholic Church.

            Survivors include his wife, Virginia Kianka, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Virginia McLaughlin (Ray), California; son, Richard Kianka, Lt Col, USAF Ret. (Christine), Enterprise, AL; 3 brothers: Joseph Kianka, Stephen Kianka, Maj, USAF Ret., and William Kianka; 2 grandchildren: Alan and Holly Kianka.

Mrs. Thelma Grissett

            Mrs. Thelma Grissett of Enterprise, AL passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 in Enterprise.  She was 95.

            Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Hebron Baptist Church with Bishop Herman Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The body will be placed into the church one hour prior to the service.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 until 8 pm.

            Mrs. Grissett was born November 22, 1914 in Coffee County, AL to the late Tobe and Lilla Norton Senn.  Her husband, J. D. Grissett, and 5 brothers and 5 sisters preceded her in death.

            Survivors include 1 sister, Dessie Spinks, Picayune, MS; 2 sisters-in-law: Martha Senn, New Brockton, AL and Arretta Senn, Troy, AL; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Connie P. Summers

            Mrs. Connie P. Summers of Enterprise, AL passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 at Medical Center Enterprise.  She was 88.

            Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the Enterprise City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Saturday beginning at 1 pm and continuing until service time.

            Mrs. Summers was born July 4, 1921 in Coffee County, AL to the late Sidney and Annie Mae Adkison Smith.  She was a member of the Christ Community Church of God.

            Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Billy Powers, Enterprise; a brother, Gene Smith, Lakeland, FL; 2 grandchildren: Stephanie Lynn Goodson (Tim) and Timothy Oneal Salter; 5 great-grandchildren.

Albert F. Hutto

            Mr. Albert F. Hutto, Jr. of Enterprise, AL passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010 in Bonifay, FL.  He was 86.

            Graveside funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Rev. Billy Cardwell officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Saturday from 10 until 10:45 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Linda Andress, P.O.             Mr. Hutto was born September 8, 1923 in Dale County, AL to the late Albert F. and Alice Arnett Hutto.  He was retired from the US Postal Service and he owned and operated a business until his retirement.  He enjoyed fishing and working in his yard.  In addition to his parents, a sister, Francis Walker, preceded him in death.

            Survivors include his wife, Juanita Motley Hutto, Enterprise, AL; two sons: Mike Hutto (Lyn), Enterprise, AL and Lomax Hutto, Tampa, FL; one sister, Clara Weed, Ozark, AL; 4 grandchildren: Sherry, Daphne, Michael and Ryan; one great-grandchild, Tyler.

COL (Ret) Bruce H. Gibbons

            COL (Ret) Bruce H. Gibbons of Enterprise, AL passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Medical Center Enterprise.  He was 77.

            Funeral services will be at 2 pm Wednesday, June 30 at Sorrells Funeral Home.  Burial will be at 2 pm (EST) Thursday, July 1 in Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, GA with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Coffee County Gideons, P.O. Box 310173, Enterprise, AL 36331-0173.

            COL (Ret) Gibbons was born February 14, 1933 in East Tawas, MI to the late Albert and Ruby Laidlaw Gibbons and affectionately raised by the late Owen and Nina Noffsinger of Pinconning, MI.  He had a distinguished military career of 30 years and is being buried with full military honors.  He was a member of the Fort Rucker Main Post Protestant Chapel.

            Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Chris Gibbons, Enterprise, AL; 2 sons: David Bruce Gibbons, Orlando, FL, Keith Alan Gibbons (Tiffany), Orlando, FL; 1 daughter, Lori Jarrett (Buddy), Ardmore, TN; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Bernarr McFadden Bowdoin

Lieutenant Commander Bernarr McFadden Bowdoin United States Navy (Retired), 82, embarked on the Eternal Patrol Thursday, June 24, 2010.

Those remaining on the pier wishing a peaceful voyage are his wife, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Norton Bowdoin; two sons, Joseph Richard Bowdoin and Steven Philip Bowdoin; a brother, Pete Albert “Jiggs” Bowdoin; two sisters, Ethel Marshalene Bowdoin King and Nell Bowdoin Rountree; three granddaughters, Melissa Lee Bowdoin Greene, Jamie Marie Bowdoin and Jessica Nanette Bowdoin; agrandson, William Douglas “Doug” Bearden II.

Funeral services will be at 3 pm Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Wiregrass Hospice Chaplain Doug Knight and Rev. Dwight Deal officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Brockton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 until 8 pm.

Commander Bowdoin was known by several names, Bernie Mack, Buck, Bodeen and K4HKR, with Buck being how he would introduce himself.  Buck was born in New Brockton, AL June 23, 1928 to Marshall Phillip Bowdoin and Willie Ethel Till Bowdoin.  Bernie Mack completed twelve years of education at New Brockton High School.  Upon graduation in 1946, he joined the United States Navy serving 10 years aboard submarines.  He then spent a few years supporting the submarine service.  He taught linear algebra at the Navy’s Nuclear Power School at Sub Base New London.  He volunteered for two tours in Vietnam as a Maintenance Officer for the river patrol boats (PBR), known as Rivron 5 of Task Force 116.  Commander Bowdoin ended his Naval career as a member of the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) in 1972.  He served on the following vessels:  Chopper, Cavalla, Clamagore, Lionfish, Albacore, and Nereus.

After retirement, Buck fulfilled a life long dream to return to New Brockton.  At that time he attended Boll Weevil Tech (ESJC) where he acquired an Associates Degree in Applied Science.  He was a founding member of the New Brockton High School Athletic Club, which established the football team.  Buck was a long time member of the Boll Weevil Lions Club.

K4HKR was a long time member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) and Ham radio operator.  He was a founding member of the Enterprise Amateur Radio Society (EARS).

Barbara Jean Brewer

            Barbara Jean Brewer of Coffee Springs, AL passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 in Enterprise.  She was 77.

            Funeral services will be at 3 pm Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Marvin Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Terry McCrummen officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 1 pm and continuing until service time.  Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Marvin Chapel Assembly of God Cemetery Fund, c/o Steve Parrish, 1011 Cty. Rd. 625, Coffee Springs, AL 36318.

            Ms. Brewer was born October 2, 1932 in Coffee County, AL to the late Gene Young and Lovie Barbaree Brewer.  After graduating from Enterprise High School in 1951, she moved to Detroit, MI where she began work with the Henry Ford Hospital, later moving to Dayton, OH where she completed 3 years of Bible college.  Then she returned to Detroit where she resumed her work with the Henry Ford Hospital.  She moved back to Coffee Springs in 1994.  She was member of Marvin Chapel Assembly of God Church.

            In addition to her parents, a brother, Titus Brewer preceded her in death.

            Survivors include 5 sisters: Frances B. Mathis and Virginia Rials, both of Coffee Springs, Judith Norene Reeves, Elba, AL, Flora Ann Liedel, Manchester, MI, Peggy Jane Hand, Westville, FL; 3 brothers: James B. Brewer, San Angelo, TX, Young Gibson Brewer, Yale, MI, Paul Brewer, Geneva, AL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Gail Cain

            Barbara Gail Cain of Montgomery, AL, formerly of Enterprise, AL, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in Montgomery.  She was 60.

            Funeral services will be at 4 pm Friday, June 18, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday beginning at 2 pm and continuing until service time.

            Barbara was born March 4, 1950 in Coffee County, AL to Odis Cain and the late Ardith Brown Cain.  She was a member of Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery.  Her mother, Ardith Cain and her sister, Marilyn Hundley, preceded her in death.

            Survivors include her father and stepmother: Odis and Mamie Cain, Elba, AL; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Sandra Cain, Enterprise, AL; 2 nieces, Nancy Edwards (Forrest), Gallatin, TN and Karen Williamson (Bob), Troy, AL and 1 nephew, Nathan Hundley (Julie), Moody, AL.

Ryan Thomas Christensen

            Ryan Thomas Christensen, who was born February 18, 1981 in Enterprise, Alabama, passed away at his residence Tuesday, June 8, 2010.  He was 29.

            Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday, June 11, 2010 at Green Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Louie Reynolds officiating.  The body will be placed into the church 1 hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5 until 7 pm.

            Ryan was a life-long resident of Enterprise and attended Enterprise High School.  He graduated from Enterprise State Junior College in 2003 where he received his associate’s degree in science.  Ryan was an avid car enthusiast.  His most prized possession was his 1999 Hugger Orange Camaro SS that he and his late father enjoyed modifying and showing.  He also enjoyed baseball.  His team was the Atlanta Braves.

            Ryan was preceded in death by his father, Richard Thomas Christensen.  Survivors include his mother, Suzanne Christensen, Enterprise, AL; 2 sisters: Juleigh Christensen-Ayer (Todd), Enterprise, AL, Baily Langley, Enterprise, AL; several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

 

Maria Angeles Black

            Maria A. Black of Enterprise passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Enterprise.  She was 71.           

            The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise on Sunday June 6, 2010 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm with a Rosary being said at 3:00pm. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow the services on Sunday.

             Mrs. Black was born on December 3, 1938 in Rota, Spain to the late Jose and Maria Pacheco Salas. She was a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church. Mrs. Black was a devoted wife to her husband Michael and a loving mother to four of the most fortunate and blessed children that she and her husband adopted while stationed in Japan. Mrs. Black lived a wonderful and fulfilling life while traveling the world with her family. Both her and her husband raised all four of their children to proudly serve our nation in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Mrs. Black will forever be remembered for her selfless sacrifices and everlasting devotion to her family as well as her openhearted kindness and never-ending generosity to both friends and strangers alike. In addition to her parents, her son, Nickolas Robert Black preceded her in death.         

      Survivors include her husband Michael Black, Enterprise, AL, 2 daughters: Paula Black, Rineyville, Kentucky and Serina Black, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, 1 son: Scotty Black, Beaufort, S.C., 1 sister: Consuelo Fuentes Pacheco, Rota, Spain.

Bonnie Belle Williams

            Bonnie Belle Williams of Enterprise, AL passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.  She was 70.           

            Funeral services will be at 2 pm Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. John Issacc officiating.  Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery in Cowarts, AL with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, May 31 from 6 until 8 pm.

            Mrs. Williams was born February 8, 1940 in Coffee County, AL.  A daughter, Donna Sue Williams, her parents, Earley and Mattie Mae Sasser Cardwell of Ashford, AL, 4 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death.

            Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Cooper (Steve), Enterprise, AL; 2 sons: Johnny Williams (Linda), Walkerton, IN, Frank Williams, IN; 2 sisters: Lessie Cothern, Geneva, AL, Betty Westmoreland, Pontotoc, MS; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

CW4 (Ret) Charles W. Cook

      CW4 (Ret) Charles W. Cook, Jr. passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at the family residence.  He was 63. 

      Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be at 2 pm Monday, May 31, 2010 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Dr. Neil Epler officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Monday from 1 until 1:45 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 1800 Highway 84 West, Opp, AL 36467.        

      Mr. Cook was born November 14, 1946 in Orangeburg, SC to the late COL (Ret) Charles W. Cook and Mary Brunson Cook.  He was a veteran retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Aviator and retired Civil Service, Department of the Army Civilian, Army Aviation Center and School, Systems Instructor - CH-47D Chinook Helicopter.

      Survivors include his wife, Ann Dora Cook, Enterprise, AL; a son, CPT Derrick W. Cook (Amanda J. Baker, fiancé), Enterprise, AL; his mother, Mary B. Cook, Petersburg, VA; 2 sisters: Betty Poythress, Virginia Beach, VA and Stella Fullerton, Hopewell, VA; 1 brother, William Cook; 2 grandchildren: Avery and Grayson Cook, Enterprise, AL; along with several nieces and nephews. 

Oliver Lanthrip

            Oliver Lanthrip of Daleville, AL passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 in Enterprise.  He was 73.

            Funeral services with full military honors will be at 10 am Friday, May 28, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Wiregrass Hospice Chaplain Rev. Roger Stone officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 9 am and continuing until service time.  Burial will be Friday at 2:30 (EST) at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Seale, AL with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.

            Mr. Lanthrip was born October 2, 1936 in Sycamore, AL.   Lloyd L. and Violet Marie Herring Lanthrip.  He was retired from the U.S. Army and was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church.  His parents, Lloyd L. and Violet Marie Herring Lanthrip and a sister, Paula Maria Lanthrip preceded him in death.

            Survivors include his wife, Elaine Lanthrip, Enterprise, AL; 1 son, Roger Lanthrip, Level Plains, AL; 1 sister, Yoevon Jones, Sylacauga, AL; 2 brothers: Marvin L. Lanthrip, Millerville, AL and Edward Waites, Alabaster, AL; 3 grandchildren: David, Timothy adn Steven Lanthrip.

Shela Faye Kelley

Shela Faye Kelley of Enterprise passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the home of her son in Andalusia, Alabama, She was.52

Mrs. Kelley was born in Elba, Alabama to the late Charles Lamar and Illa M. Dansby Kyser. She was a member of the Samson Rescue Squad. In addition to her parents, her grandparents, Charlie and Ada Ruth Kyser, Morrell and Eldora Dansby all preceded her in death.

Barbara Ann Reynolds Ransum

Barbara Ann Reynolds Ransum of Coffee Springs, Alabama passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the family residence. She was 61.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Tuesday, May 25, 2010 from the El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. David Grier and Rev. Don Tew officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 until 8pm. The body will be placed into the church 1 hour before service time.

Mrs. Barbara was born January 24, 1949 in Kings Mountain, N.C. to the late Raymond and Irene Whaley Reynolds. She was a member of the El Bethel Baptist Church where she was very active working with the children department as well as serving in the choir. She had been employed with Civil Service for the past 28 years and most recently working as the Budget Director with CRC at Ft. Rucker. She had received her Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management. She was also a graduate of the Army Management Staff College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Rucker and a grandson, Jimmy Wood.

Survivors include her husband, James Ransum, Coffee Springs, AL, Son: Bill Wood (Tanya), Daleville, AL, Step-Sons: Jason Ransum (Jennifer) and Stephen Ransum all of Warrior, AL, 2 sisters: Margaret Anderson (Gary), Daleville, AL, Elizabeth ”Lib” Carpenter, Kings Mountain, N.C., brother: Ray Reynolds, Kings Mountain, N.C., 5 grandchildren: Danielle Nicklow, Heather Wood, Amber Wood, Austin Ransum and Jessica Ransum, several nieces and nephews.

David Lamar Drew

            David Lamar Drew of Enterprise, AL passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at the family residence.  He was 77.

            Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday, May 24, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev.             Mr. Drew was born June 23, 1932 in Union, MS to the late Victor K. and Eva Mae Wells Drew.  He retired from the US Army, having served during the Korean War and in Vietnam, having been awarded a Bronze Star and numerous other awards.  He was retired from Civil Service and was a member of Westview Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers Patrick, Arthur, Edgar, Billy and Glen Drew, and 2 sisters, Marguerite Reed and Norma Williamson.

            Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Reathel Mae Drew, Enterprise, AL; 2 daughters: Glenda Peterson (Tim), Mashpee, MA, Judy Bell (Kevin), Enterprise, AL; 1 son, Howard Drew (Patsy), Enterprise, AL; 3 sisters: Wilda Thorne, Fairhope, AL, Peggy Thorne, Daphne, AL, Linda Buchanan, Huntsville, AL; 4 brothers: Aubrey Drew, Memphis, TN, Johnny Drew, Pensacola, FL, Russell Drew, Texas, Gerald Drew, Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren: Timothy and Michael Peterson, Devin Bell, David Drew, Jessica Prows, Dominic Drew; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Virginia F. Denmark

            Virginia Denmark of Enterprise, AL passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the family residence following a courageous battle with cancer.  She was 50.

Patricia A. Jerkins

Patricia A. Jerkins of Enterprise passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Medical Center Enterprise. She was 65.

Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, May 14, 2010 from the Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Enterprise with Rev George Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery  (Clayhatchee) with Sorrells Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 until 8pm.

Mrs. Jerkins was born April 8, 1945 in Enterprise, Alabama. Her husband, Willie Jeff Jerkins preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Naomi Clark, a son Wendell Jerkins (Misty) all of Enterprise, grandchildren, Felicia Clark, Betty Strickland and Alexander Jerkins, great grandchildren, Camren Avery and Maci Strickland, aunts, Virginia Barnes and Hettie Mae Layton, brother, Lamar Edmondson,  several nieces and nephews.

 Trecie Mae Hendrix Fuller

Mrs. Trecie Mae Hendrix Fuller of Co. Rd. 17, Enterprise, AL went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, May 11, 2010.  She was 90.

Funeral services will be 11:30 am, Saturday, May 15, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Rev. Lane Harris officiating.  Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, May 14, from 5 until 7 pm.

Mrs. Fuller was born June 19, 1919 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Benjamin Franklin and Arkie Penelope Hagan Hendrix.  She was a very active and devoted member of Salem Baptist Church for more than 60 years.  Mrs. Fuller taught Sunday school, bible school and was also the pianist and organist for a number of years.  She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed working in the garden and reading.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Malcom Fuller, and six sisters preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Louella (Elmer) McLean, Enterprise, AL; two sons, Max (Valarie) Fuller, Hartford, AL, Michael (Sheri) Fuller, Enterprise, AL; three sisters, Voncile McDowell, Betty (Neal) Knowles, both of Mobile, AL, Judith (Allen) Johnson, Southport, FL; one brother, Grady “Bill” (Eva) Hendrix, Enterprise, AL; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Clarence Edward Mauck

Mr. Clarence Edward Mauck of Chipley, Florida passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010 in the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.  He was 74.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, May 12 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Rev. William Lisenby officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in New Brockton with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Enterprise Tuesday, May 11, from 6 until 8 pm.

Mr. Mauck was born Dec. 29, 1935, in English, Indiana to the late Emil and Lizzie Underhill Mauck. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; he truly cared for his family. He enjoyed gardening and was good to anyone who needed help or support.

In addition to his parents, one brother, Herbert Mauck, two sisters which includes his twin, Catherine Hill and Gertrude Mundy, all preceeded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Margaret Mitchell Mauck, Chipley, FL; one son, Tony (Janet) Mauck, Hartford, AL; two daughters, Vicki (James) Roberts, Brenda (Kenny) Bowers, all of Winter Garden, FL; two sisters, Beulah Reed and Jean Downing, both of Evansville, Indiana; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

 

CWO3 (Ret) Lloyd Donnovan Scott

            CWO3 (Ret) Lloyd Donnovan Scott of Enterprise, AL went to eternal rest Saturday, May 1, 2010.  He was 80.

            Mr. Scott was born in Buchanan County, Iowa on October 6, 1929.  Preceding him in death was his father, Lloyd J. Scott, mother, Ivadell Peterson Scott, stepmother, Marie Reck Scott, and grandson, Aaron Leigh Scott.

            Surviving him is Veryle, wife of 59 years of Enterprise; son, Russell Scott and wife Jacqueline of Semmes, AL; daughter, Susan Scott Dumas of Southlake, TX; step granddaughter, Justina Bowick and her husband Robbie and 4 great-grandchildren of Mobile, AL; sister Betty Scott Kress and husband Lowell of Independence, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

            Mr. Scott joined the US Army in 1949 and retired after 20 years.  While in the service he served a tour in the Korean War.  In 1956 he went to flight school at Ft. Rucker where he became a helicopter flight instructor.  He then served a tour in Germany, 2 tours in Viet Nam and retired in 1969 as Chief Warrant Officer 3.  Following retirement, he worked government contracts at Ft. Rucker and then owned/operated a marina in Panama City, FL.  He and his wife enjoyed traveling in their RV for many years.  He was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church until his death.

            A memorial service will be held at 10 am Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Enterprise.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 1800 US Hwy. 84 West, Opp, AL 36467 or the Disabled American Veterans, National Service Fund, PO Box 145550, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-5550.

Harold "Dusty" Rhoades

            Mr. Harold T. “Dusty” Rhoades of Enterprise and formerly of Daleville passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Enterprise.  He was 89.

            Funeral services will be at 4 pm Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home.  Mr. Rhoades will be buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, FL (Orlando area) on Monday, May 3, 2010 with Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise directing.

            Mr. Rhoades was born June 12, 1920 in Indiana.  He entered the US Army in June 1940 at Ft. Knox, KY and served several years during WWII.

            Children, brothers and sisters, as well as nieces and nephews from out of state survive him.

Grazia Windham Smith

            Grazia Windham Smith of Daleville, AL passed away Friday, April 23, 2010 at the family residence.  She was 79.

            Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, April 26,2010 at Daleville Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Tindol officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The body will lie in state in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise on Sunday from 4 until 6 pm.

Ms. Smith was born April 17, 1931 in Dale County to Hilliard and Hilda Windham.  She was a member of Daleville First Baptist Church.  In addition to her father, her husband, Benjamin Smith, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son: Robert W. Smith and his wife Susan of Montgomery; one daughter: Pam Tindol and her husband Mike of Enterprise; four grandchildren: Rachel Sumlin Tindol Gillis, Lex Michael Tindol, Savannah Grace Smith, and Madison Windham Smith; and one brother: Jessie Windham and his wife Patricia.

Mr. Preston Lott

            Mr. Preston Lott of Brundidge, AL (New Hope Community) passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the family residence.  He was 93.

            Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday, April 24, 2010 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. J.C. Turner and Rev.             Mr. Lott was born June 28, 1916 in Coffee County to the late Harvey Lincoln and Ethel Shiver Lott.  He was a member of the Dixie Flywheeler Association as well as a retired farmer.  He was preceded in death by his first wife of 70 years, Dessie Ree Whittenton Lott.

Vera Louise Spieler

            Vera Louise Spieler of New Brockton, AL passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Medical Center Enterprise.  She was 85.

            Mrs. Spieler was born February 28, 1925 in Celina, Ohio to the late Martin and Sara Marie Chambers.

Gene Allen Speigner

            Mr. Gene Allen Speigner of Enterprise, AL passed away Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the family residence.  He was 86.

            Funeral services will be at 10 am Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Duhaime and Rev.             Mr. Speigner was born August 13, 1923 in Bellwood, AL to the late Jess A. and Mettie Jane Knight Speigner.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Civil Service.  He was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

            Survivors include his wife, Lucille Bragg Speigner, Enterprise; son and daughter-in-law, Rickey G. and Denette Speigner, Burns, TN; 2 grandchildren: Amber and Allen Speigner; 2 sisters: Florence Bean, Newnan, GA and Hilda Windham, Chancellor, AL; several nieces and nephews.

 

Alma Dobbe

            Mrs. Alma S. Dobbe of Enterprise, AL passed away April 18, 2010 in Enterprise.  She was 89.

            Funeral arrangements and services will be handled by Scott Funeral Home in Glenview, IL (847-998-1020).  Local arrangements are being handled by Sorrells Funeral Home.

            Mrs. Dobbe was born August 15, 1920 in Amherst Junction, WI to the late Martin and Carrie Glenda Johnson Satre.  In addition to her parents, her husband, William Walter Dobbe, Sr., son, William Walter Dobbe, Jr. and a sister, Eunice Barta preceded her in death.

            Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Howard Mikkelsen, Enterprise; 3 sisters: Leona Helgeson, Lillian Martin and Donna Lacey; numerous nieces and nephews.

Rev. Joe B. Grimes

            Rev. Joe B. Grimes of Samson, AL (Piney Grove Community) went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 15, 2010.  He was 85.

            Funeral services will be at 4 pm Sunday, April 18, 2010 in the chapel at Sorrells Funeral Home of Enterprise with Rev. Danny Bradshaw and Rev. Jimmy Eddins officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday beginning at 2 pm and continuing until service time.

            Rev. Grimes was born in Coffee County, AL to the late George W. and Lou Anna Holloway Grimes.  He served in the US Army during WWII.  He was a member of the Holloway Tabernacle Assembly of God Church for many years and after he was called to preach, he served Assemblies of God churches in Alabama, Florida and Georgia.  In addition to his parents, 3 sisters and 6 brothers preceded him in death.

            Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Reba Henderson Grimes, Samson; 2 daughters: Joyce Bradshaw (Rev. Danny), Kinston, AL, Jeanne Day (Hamp), Samson; 1 son, Ken Grimes (Sheila), Slocomb; 6 grandchildren: Beverly Hudson (Hunter), Danielle Marsh (Paul), D’Andra Tingey (Eli), Carolyn Grimes, Kendall Grimes, Andy Day; 2 great-grandchildren: Hillary Hudson and Hayden Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.

James Larry Gilmore

            James Larry Gilmore of Hwy. 125, Elba, AL passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at Flowers Hospital.  He was 63.

            Larry was born July 28, 1946 to the late Rufus Claude and Ebbie Thomas Gilmore.  He was a lifelong resident of Coffee County and a member of Whitewater Baptist Church.  Larry was retired from Covington Electric Cooperative as a lead lineman.  In addition to his parents, his first wife, Cheryl Hundley Gilmore, 3 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death.

            Survivors include his wife, Connie Sue Gilmore, Elba; 1 daughter, Sandra Carol, Texas; 2 sons: James Michael Gilmore (Emi), Japan and Larry Allen Gilmore (Sandra Stagner), Luverne, AL; 1 sister, Gayle Boyd, Dothan; 1 brother, Ronnie Gilmore (Donna), Enterprise; brother-in-law, Joe T. Ethel D. Elmore

            Mrs. Ethel D. Elmore of Enterprise passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 in Enterprise.  She was 95.

            Memorial services will be at 2 pm Monday, April 12, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Dwayne Sims officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.

            Mrs. Elmore was born January 6, 1915 in Covin, AL to the late Oscar and Cora Lee Sapp Bohannon.  She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.  Mrs. Elmore liked gardening, flowers, birds and the beach.  She also was a wonderful seamstress.  In addition to her parents, her husband, Floyd Elmore, and 8 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

            Survivors include her daughter, Angie Goodman, Enterprise; stepchildren: Sarah Ellen Gassert (Clint) and Annella Waldrop, all of Birmingham, AL; 1 brother, Edsel Bohannon (Opal), Tuscaloosa, AL; 3 grandchildren: David G. Grover C. Jones, Jr.

            Grover C. Jones, Jr. of Bellwood, AL passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the family residence.  He was 73.

            Mr. Jones was born April 16, 1936 in Chilton County, AL to the late Grover Curtis and Alma Glass Jones.  He served in the US Air Force and was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Rucker.  In addition to his parents, two daughters, Kandy and Linda Jones, preceded him in death.

Colonel (Ret) Edgar Ray Fitzgerald

            Colonel (Ret) Edgar Ray Fitzgerald of Eufaula, AL and formerly of Enterprise, AL passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.  He was 82.

            Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Dr. Neil Epler and Reverend Dianne Kelly officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  Lunch will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately following the memorial service.  There will be a private family interment with full military honors.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 until 8 pm.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church, 341 Hwy. 92, Abbeville, AL 36310.

            Mr. Fitzgerald was born February 5, 1928 in Fairbury, IL to the late Marshall and Beulah Morris Fitzgerald.  He entered into the US Army as a 17 year old Private and retired after 26 years of service as a Colonel.  He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, GA in 1971.  He started, operated and sold two businesses in Enterprise after his retirement from the US Army.  He has served on numerous boards and committees over the years including 32 years with the Army Aviation Museum Foundation, Enterprise Junior College Foundation for many years, US Army Officer Candidate School Foundation, Coffee County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 7 years on the City of Enterprise Planning Commission, St. Luke United Methodist Church Board, Chief Trainer for the State of Alabama for the AARP Driver Safety Course, and was an Enterprise Lions Club Board member.  He conceived and individually raised money for and had built the Fort Rucker Appreciation Park and at the request of the Mayor, he designed the new Wall of Freedom in Enterprise.  He was nominated 3 times for the Enterprise Man of the Year and was one of the few Melvin Jones Fellows in the Lions Club. 

            Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Abbeville, AL.  In addition to his parents, his first wife, Ellen Fitzgerald, preceded him in death.

            Survivors include his wife, Sue Fitzgerald, Eufaula, AL; 1 son, Bruce Ray Fitzgerald (Denise), Apopka, FL; 1 daughter, Brenda Killpack (Ronald), Enterprise; 1 sister, Lois Simpson (Thomas), Fairbury, IL; 7 grandchildren, Shannon Killpack Hutchinson (Blake), Durham, NC, Samuel Killpack, Birmingham, AL, Sarah Michelle Outlaw (Brandon), Portland, OR, Mary Anne Killpack, Vancouver, WA, Bradley Ray Fitzgerald and Brian Marshall Fitzgerald, both of Orlando, FL, Julie Killpack, Enterprise; 2 great-grandchildren: Jane Claire Hutchinson and Rosalie Elizabeth Hutchinson.

Rebecca B. Campbell

            Rebecca B. Campbell of Coffee Springs, AL passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010.  She was 40.

            Memorial services will be 7 pm Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 pm.

            Rebecca was born January 29, 1970 in Ft. Rucker, AL to the late Elden Rodger Blazer and Mary Angeline Pate.  She was of the Baptist faith.

            Survivors include her husband, Dale Wayne Campbell, Jr., Coffee Springs; a daughter, Ashley Brooke Sanders, Coffee Springs; stepfather, Bobby Pate, Ripley, TN.
