 David Pierce Patton

Mr. David Pierce Patton a resident of Dothan, Alabama, and formerly of Geneva, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010.  He was 52.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 2, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Ricky Plummer and Rev. Gene Hauser officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, August 1, from 5 until 7 pm.

The family asked that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Geneva High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Geneva High School, 505 Panther Drive, Geneva, AL 36340.

David was born November 20, 1957, in Gainsville, Georgia to the late Beverly Prince, Jr. and Lillie Mac Hightower Patton.  He was a 1976 graduate of Geneva High School.

In addition to his parents, a niece, Amy Zann Mitchell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Madison and Allison Patton, Dothan, AL; one sister, Shay (Edward) Lindsey, Geneva, AL; one brother, Prince (Karen) Patton, Dothan, AL; nephew, John Lindsey; nieces, Evan Godfrey and Kerriann Godfrey Snell; mother of his children, Page Whigham, Dothan, AL; special family friends, Lee Van and Ashley Carroll and their children Van and Anna; other extended family and friends.

 Sug D. Leavins

Mr. Sug D. Leavins of Curry Ferry Road (Izagora Community) Bonifay, Florida passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Flowers Hospital after a short illness.  He was 91.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva.  Burial will follow in the East Pittman Baptist Church cemetery in Holmes County with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 30, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mr. Leavins was born March 7, 1919, in Holmes County, Florida to the late Sweet and Sallie Mann Leavins.  He proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army.  He was a lifelong resident of the Izagora Community and was of the Mormon faith.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Virginia Inez Sanders Leavins, as well as four brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, Dearl (Anita) Leavins, Bonifay, FL; three daughters: T'Otta Moore, Geneva, AL, Brail (Layvonne) Sketoe, Westville, FL, Maricia (Paul) Pitts, Bonifay, FL; two foster children: Paul Spann, Dothan, AL, Phillip Spann, Geneva, AL; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Steven Robert Woodrow Wilson

Mr. Steven Robert Woodrow Wilson of Goose Hollow Road, Geneva, Alabama passed away Monday, July 26, 2010.  He was 66.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 30, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Pastor Song Lim, Rev. Dale Morgan and Rev. Gerald Hollis officiating.  Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Memory Gardens cemetery in Ozark with full military honors.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Geneva Thursday, July 29, from 6 until 8 pm.

Mr. Wilson was born August 23, 1943 in Monmouth, Illinois to the late Charles Seth and Vera Grace Crawford Wilson.  After 21 years of service with the U.S. Army, which included three tours in Vietnam, he retired as a 1st SGT. He was a very giving person and helped anyone in need; a person everyone could call “Dad”.  He thoroughly enjoyed his trade as a Master Mechanic.  He was a member of Eden Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, a son, Thomas Steven Wilson, as well as two brothers and two sisters, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Hui Ran Chun Wilson, Geneva, AL; two sons, Steven Lee (Kelly C.), Shreveport, LA, Eric (Brandee) Wilson Millbrook, AL; one daughter, Anna (Adam) Coker, San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren: Leah and Steven Wilson, Shreveport, LA, Reed and Blake Wilson, Millbrook, AL; five brothers and two sisters; other extended family and friends.

 Hazel Morris Lolley

Mrs. Hazel Morris Lolley of Samson, Alabama passed away Monday, July 19, 2010.  She was 80.

Funeral services will be 11: 00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Jimmy Eddins and Rev. Jack Chancey officiating.  Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continue until service time.

Mrs. Lolley was born January 11, 1930, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Leroy and Malissie Philips Morris.  She was a decorated housewife who loved taking care of her family.  She was a lifelong member of the Samson First Assembly of God Church.

In addition to her parents, her husband, A.D. Lolley, as well as three sisters and one brother, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one sister, O’Lean Ogletree, Phenix City, AL; four step sons, Jackie (Carolyn) Lolley, Enterprise, AL, Robert (Tina) Lolley, Opp, AL, Bobby (Rhonda) Lolley, Samson, AL, Lamar (Lorene) Lolley; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; special niece, Vickie Bannin, Enterprise, AL, who was like a daughter to her; 11 nieces and nephews.

 Betty Jo Braswell Kirkland

Ms. Betty Jo Braswell Kirkland of Geneva, Alabama went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 12, 2010.  She was 74.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Hospice Chaplain Roger Stone and Rev. Phillip Barnes officiating.  Burial will follow in the Leddon Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, July 16, from 6 until 8 p.m. 

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 105 Whaley St., Opp, AL 36467.

Ms. Kirkland was born November 16, 1935, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late James Yarbrough and Josephine LouElla “Lula” Howell Braswell.  She was a 1953 graduate of Geneva High School.  Ms. Betty was employed with Wiregrass Medical Center for several years and at the time of her sickness she was employed at Greenwood Assisted Living Facility.  She had the honor of being the first health aide for Geneva County.  She thoroughly enjoyed her work because she just simply loved to help people.  She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and was a very loving, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, two brothers, Huston and Charles “Bo” Braswell, three grandsons, Gary Siggers, Codie McCormick and Jonathon Stone, as well as a brother-in-law, Pete Paige, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Randy Lavoy (Lori) Kirkland, Geneva, AL; three daughters: Callie Faye (Jimmie) Bryan, Westville, FL, Rhonda Jo Stone, Geneva, AL, Mary Janet McCormick, Niceville, FL; one brother, James (Mary Lou) Braswell, Tampa, FL; three sisters: Rosa Etta Paige, Clarkston, GA, Dorothy Jean (Holland) Vaughan, Gainsville, FL, Oneida (Gene) Gentry, Cummings, GA; sister-in-law, Betty Willis Braswell, Sebring, FL; five grandchildren, Calvin (Jennifer) Bryan, Callie Siggers, Hope McCormick, Krystal (Caleb) Tyler, Randi Leigh Kirkland; three great-grandchildren, Caleb & Lailah Bryan, Jonathan Burgess; two special friends, Robert Seay, Geneva, AL and David McCormick, Niceville, FL;  several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends

 Emma Lavonia Grantham Phelps

Mrs. Emma Lavonia Grantham Phelps of Valley, Alabama, formerly of Geneva passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010.  She was 94.

Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, in the Geneva City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:30 pm.

Mrs. Phelps was born March 19, 1916 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Gordan Daniel and Ida Grantham.  She, along with her husband “Gus,” owned and operated Phelps Grocery in Geneva for 20 years.  She was also employed with Phillips Van Heusen and Gilstrap Drug Company for several years.  Mrs. Emma was an avid gardener; she loved flowers.  She was totally devoted to her family and she loved them dearly.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Hubert Augusta “Gus” Phelps, three brothers and two sisters, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Schella Phelps Taylor, Valley, AL; two grandsons, Jason Taylor, Sevierville, TN, Chase Taylor, Odenton, MD; one sister-in-law, Helen Coleman, Columbus, GA; two special nieces, Betty Adams, Columbus, GA, Lillian (Roy) Eason, Pasadena, TX.

 Barttie E. "Pet" Bradley

Mrs. Barttie E. “Pet” Bradley of Bradley Road, Westville, Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior, June 30, 2010.  She was 93.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 3, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Kenny Montgomery and Rev. Kenneth Bradley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Campground cemetery in Holmes County with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Geneva Friday, July 2, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Bradley was born December 21, 1916, in Geneva County, Alabama to the late John and Minnie Lee Stevens Hanks.  She enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an accomplished seamstress.  Mrs. “Pet” had a very strong faith in God.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Cephus “Red” Bradley; two sons, John and Troy Bradley; a grandson, Keith Bradley; one sister, Nina Powell and three brothers, George, Lint and Doug Hanks, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Edward (Linda) Bradley, Westville, FL; two daughters, Fran (Morris) Floyd, Ponce de Leon, FL, Dian (Johnny) Johnson, Westville, FL; one sister, Essie Mae Hornsby, Ponce de Leon, FL; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alex Floyd, Hank Floyd, Tillis Scobie, Mike Kelley, Brett Westmoreland and Jason Bryan.

 Patricia Ann Marlow Mathis

Mrs. Patricia Ann Marlow Mathis of Coffee Springs, Alabama passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010.  She was 50.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva.  Burial will follow in the Leddon Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 1, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Patricia was born June 24, 1960 in New Castle, Indiana.

One son, Darrell Mathis, and her father, Freddie James Marlow, Sr. preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Mathis, Coffee Springs, AL; mother, Ruth Ann Marlow; two brothers: Don (Amy) Marlow, Freddie Jr. (Linda) Marlow, all of New Castle, IN; husband, N.L. Laningham.

 D.L. Head

Mr. D. L. Head of Geneva, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, June 28, 2010.  He was 78.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 1, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Murray Kelley and Pastor Mike and Janet German officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hartford City cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, June 30, from 6 until 8 p.m.

The family asked that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to the Times of Refreshing Worship Center, 322 E. Smith Ave., Geneva, AL 36340.

Mr. Head was born August 3, 1931 in Coffee County, Alabama to the late James Grover and Jewel Pearl Hudson Head.  He was a very active member of the Geneva Senior Center where he was recently honored for 55 years of service as Santa Claus.  He was always ready and very willing to help Robbie with anything she asked him to do.  He thoroughly enjoyed the center and he also enjoyed fishing.  After 18 years of service, he retired from Ft. Rucker where he fueled and defueled helicopters.  He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was a member of Times of Refreshing Worship Center.

In addition to his parents, his first wife, Floy Lee Head, a daughter, Patty Moon, as well as one sister, Linda Gail Harcus, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife, Estelle Ellison Head, Geneva, AL; one daughter, Kathy Dispain, McDonough, GA; three stepsons: Gary Ellison, Pensacola, FL, Bobby Joe (Leann) Ellison, Geneva, AL, Douglas (Patty) Ellison, Samson, AL; three sisters: Martha Dewberry, Huntsville, AL, Frances (Al) Lindsay, Westville, FL, Mary Jane (Ronnie) Owens, Enterprise, AL; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends.

 Sarah Frances Gilmore

Mrs. Sarah Frances Gilmore of Geneva, Alabama passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010.  She was 80.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Coy Haney officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Assembly of God cemetery in New Hope, Florida with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, June 29, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Gilmore was born May 2, 1930 in Holmes County, Florida to the late Alexander and Lizzie Jane Davis Dady.  She was a very loving, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Her family was her life.  Earth’s treasures meant nothing to her, but her family meant everything and she made sure they were taken care of.

In addition to her parents, the father of her children, William Broward “Buck” Vaughan, her second husband, Richard Ashley Gilmore, a daughter, Debra J. Curry, and a great-grandson, David Eric Gilley, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters: Janie Sanders, Patricia Legear, Callie (Bryan) Hudspeth, all of Geneva, AL, Teresa (Winston) Mims, New Hope, FL; one son, William Henry (Linda) Vaughan, Geneva, AL; four sisters: Mozell Watson, Willie Mae (Buddy) Biggs, all of New Hope, FL, Mary (Hubert) Scott, Panama City, FL, Inez Davis, Geneva, AL; one brother, Charlie (Jeanette) Dady, New Hope, FL; fourteen grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Hayden Childs and staff, Wiregrass Medical Center, Covenant Hospice and the entire staff at Sorrells Funeral Home.  They would also like to say thank you to all their friends and family for their prayers, loving support and many other acts of kindness.
